Latest Announcement!

It is with pure delight with which I write this blog to announce that the i’s have been dotted and the t’s crossed regarding the organisation who will print the Pen and Corrections collection of haiku for which we have been raising funds through our Crowdfunder campaign https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/pen-and-corrections-haiku-by-serving-prisoners.

Before announcing who will print our book, I want to bring an article to your attention that was written by Jose Aguiar.

Jose Aguiar is an educational consultant who has worked in prison education, developing educational projects for the last eight years. He has a particular interest in projects concerning citizenship education, social enterprises, democratic participation and related areas.

In the article, CITIZENSHIP AND SOCIAL ENTERPRISE IN PRISON, Jose explains that “A social enterprise is a not-for-profit organisation that has primarily social goals and which uses any surpluses to make a positive difference to the community: local, national or global.”

Ted, Ollie and I wanted to ensure we maximised our fantastic supporters’ donations, so that as much as possible from the money we raised is put back into supporting and helping others. Therefore, I am so delighted, proud and excited to announce that Mugshots Print from Northern Ireland will print our book. I’ve taken the following from their about us page at: https://www.mugshotsprintni.com/

MUGSHOTS is an award-winning business like no other – specialising in breaking the re-offending cycle Mugshots equips young offenders with the skills, support and resources to compete more effectively for employment. Mugshots has a proven record of rehabilitation that offers an innovative solution to integrate a target group often considered furthest from the labour market.

For five years Mugshots has provided a unique, hands-on employment experience based inside Hydebank Young Offenders Prison in Northern Ireland, where 24 young offenders each year complete Employability Skills training and gain formal Work Experience in our social enterprise workshop.

As a social enterprise 100% of our profits are reinvested to support young offenders who have completed our training and then been released from custody access help to break the re-offending cycle.

I am sure you will agree we most definitely made the right choice. From us at Pen and Corrections to you all.

  1. There is nothing to say other than it is incredible how each part of this project is making a direct difference to the lives and prospects of those in prison, those who are now out of prison, and the families of those in prison. Brilliant concept from concept to production.
